Birthday party games for adults that aren't awkward
Adult party games have a reputation problem: everyone remembers being forced into an icebreaker. The fix is games where people opt into being funny, and where the birthday person is the star rather than the victim.
1. Trivia about the birthday person
This is the one people talk about. Write five clues on Make your own category (“This is the job she quit after one day”) and add it to a Trivia Board game on the TV. Guests buzz in from their phones. It takes a few minutes to set up and it's free. More tips in our free Jeopardy maker guide.
2. A fill-in-the-blank card game
Best Answer Wins works like Cards Against Humanity: a prompt, your funniest card, a judge. Start with the Family deck and switch to After Dark later if the room is up for it. Everyone also gets three blank cards to write their own, which is where the birthday roasts happen.
3. A bluffing game
Who's Lying? is a quick whodunnit: everyone knows the secret except one person, who has to bluff through one-word clues. It's great with friends who know exactly when you're lying.
4. The big finish
Once everyone's loosened up, Fishbowl in two teams. Have guests write slips about the birthday person's life: old nicknames, terrible exes (gently), signature moves.
Setup in two minutes
Open hangtime.games/host on the TV or a laptop, pick a game, and guests scan the QR code or type the four-letter code at hangtime.games/play. No app, no account for guests.
Put a game on the TV, everyone joins from their phone. Three games are free, no app or account.
