Make your own Jeopardy game for free (no PowerPoint)

The quickest free way is to write your own category on Hangtime: five clues of rising difficulty, takes a few minutes, no account. You get a short code; type it into the Trivia Board lobby and your category plays on a proper Jeopardy-style board on the TV, alongside built-in categories, with everyone buzzing in from their phone and the score kept for you.

The classic way to make a Jeopardy game is a PowerPoint template with a grid of hyperlinked slides. It works, but you spend an evening fixing broken links, and then someone has to keep score on a napkin and decide who said it first.

How to make one on Hangtime

  1. Go to hangtime.games/make.
  2. Name your category, like “The Sharma Family” or “Q3 Office Gossip”.
  3. Write five clues, easiest first. Write them as statements, Jeopardy-style (“This is the city where Mom and Dad met”), with the answer.
  4. Save it. You get a short code and a link to share.
  5. Open Trivia Board on the TV, type the code under “Add a custom category” in the lobby, and pick a few built-in categories to fill out the board.

It's free, and nobody needs an account. Players join from their phones at hangtime.games/play.

What you get over a template

Writing good clues

Make the first clue something everyone gets, so nobody's left out, and save the deep cut for the last one. Answers should be short and unambiguous. And if the clue is about someone in the room, make sure they'll laugh, not leave.
